A bar or bat mitzvah is more than just an event—it’s a milestone, a rite of passage, and a celebration of heritage, family, and tradition. As a photographer, my job isn’t just to document what happens; it’s to capture how it feels—the joy, the pride, the energy of the dance floor, and the quiet, heartfelt moments in between.

Capturing the Heart of Your Celebration

Boston Mitzvah Photographer

This milestone deserves more than just documentation.

I know how important it is to honor both the spiritual and cultural significance of this day. That means coordinating with your synagogue to ensure I’m following all guidelines, being fully present while staying out of the way, and documenting the ceremony in a way that reflects its reverence, warmth, and meaning.

✹  A deep respect for tradition.

Years of experience photographing families, events, and even wildlife have given me an intuitive grasp of how to use light creatively and effectively. From the soft ambiance of a sanctuary to the wild flashes of the dance floor, I know how to shape light to bring out the best in any moment without making it feel artificial or over-produced.

✹  Mastery of light and composition.

Mitzvahs are full of movement, emotion, and occasionally delightful chaos. I stay grounded and steady through it all, anticipating moments before they happen and helping things run smoothly without adding stress. I know when to gently take the lead and when to fade into the background—and I make that transition seamlessly.

✹   Tranquil amid the chaos.

I know how to make kids feel comfortable so their real personalities shine through. Want something that feels a little more tailored to you? I’m always happy to think outside the box and find a setting or style that matches your child’s personality. Whether it’s a relaxed portrait session ahead of the big day or a moment of calm in the midst of the celebration, I’m here to make sure the photos feel natural, meaningful, and totally you.

✹   Authentic moments over stiff poses.

A Different Approach to Mitzvah Photography

THE

process

From the first conversation to the final group photo, I bring a grounded, experienced presence to what can often feel like a whirlwind of a day. I’m easygoing and approachable—but when it’s time to give clear direction or organize a big group, I can confidently take the lead without making anyone feel rushed or uncomfortable.

Step One.

Calm Confidence From the Start

We'll have a virtual or in person pre-shoot consultation to collaborate on a vision for the images, make a shot list, get all of your questions answered, and set a date and location for the shoot.

Step Two

Trust and Connection With Your Mitzvah Kid

When the ceremony begins, I fade into the background—using a silent shutter, long lenses, and thoughtful positioning to capture meaningful moments without interrupting the flow. At the reception, I adjust to the energy of the room, quietly documenting emotional moments and stepping in confidently when it’s time to rally the group for portraits or action shots. I move intuitively between observer and guide so nothing feels forced, and nothing important is missed.

Step Three

Respectful Coverage from Ceremony to Celebration

After the celebration, I make sure the delivery process is just as smooth as the photography itself. You’ll receive a curated slideshow of highlights within three weeks, followed by a gallery where you can download your images and order prints or albums with ease. If your package includes a print credit or custom album, I’ll walk you through every step—making it simple (and even fun) to turn your favorite moments into something tangible and lasting.

Step Four

A Streamlined, Thoughtful Delivery Experience

I offer four thoughtfully designed packages to suit a range of needs—from simple, streamlined coverage to a full-service experience with all the heirloom extras. Pricing starts at $2,400 and scales up based on your coverage and product preferences. Depending on the package you choose, you may receive:

What's included?

  • One or two photographers
  • 4–8 hours of coverage
  • A pre-mitzvah portrait session (included in the top two packages)
  • A curated slideshow of highlights
  • High-resolution digital image files
  • Print credit to spend on albums, wall art, or thank you cards

All packages can be customized with à la carte options so you only pay for what you really want—and nothing you don’t.

Included with my higher-tier packages, this session is a relaxed, low-pressure opportunity to take portraits in a setting that’s meaningful to your family. Some ways families use this session include:

A Bonus Pre-Mitzvah Session

  • Personality-packed portraits – Casual, expressive photos that show off who your child is outside the formalities of the big day.

  • Synagogue portraits – Ideal if your venue restricts photography during the ceremony, allowing us to capture key moments in advance.

  • Grandparent or legacy photos – A perfect chance to include extended family in a quieter, more personal setting.

  • Tallit or tefillin ceremonies – For capturing meaningful rituals that happen separately from the main event.

No matter how you use it, this session adds depth to your mitzvah gallery and gives your child a chance to relax in front of the camera before the celebration kicks off.

When I was 13, my parents were divorcing, I was being bullied at school, and I was struggling socially, emotionally, and academically. It was a year of feeling disoriented and unsure of who I was.

That experience shaped me in ways I’m still uncovering—but one thing it gave me is a genuine respect for what kids at this age are navigating. I never forget that behind the formal wear and celebration, there’s a young person in transition.

My goal is to make sure they feel truly seen, comfortable, and celebrated exactly as they are.

Since then, I’ve been slowly and meaningfully reconnecting with that part of my heritage. Photographing mitzvahs has become a way for me to experience Jewish culture not just from the outside looking in, but as something I can now claim and participate in.

In many ways, these celebrations have become both personally enriching and creatively inspiring—each one gives me a chance to honor tradition, explore identity, and create something lasting for families who are marking this incredible milestone.

Why Mitzvah Photography Matters to Me

About five years ago, I uncovered a family story that completely shifted my understanding of where I come from—my grandmother, who had always identified as French Catholic, was actually 100% Ashkenazi Jewish, but had hidden her identity to stay safe from persecution.

I also have a deep empathy for kids at this age—not just as a photographer, but as someone who remembers how hard that time can be.

Still have questions?

How do you handle difficult lighting situations?

Synagogues and reception venues often have tricky lighting—dim spaces, colorful uplighting, or dark dance floors. I use a mix of techniques including off-camera flash (when permitted), silent shutter, and high-performance lenses to ensure flattering, consistent results without being disruptive. From ambient candlelight to flashing party lights, I’ve got it covered.

How far in advance should we book you?

Ideally, a year in advance—especially if your mitzvah falls during peak season. That said, because I work with a wide range of families (not just mitzvahs), I sometimes have availability even when other event photographers are booked solid.

Do you offer albums or printed products?

Yes! My higher-tier packages include print credits and heirloom-quality albums, and every client has access to a beautifully designed online store with wall art, thank you cards, and more. I make the process simple and never pushy.

How do you make teens feel comfortable?

With a mix of genuine respect and a sense of humor. I connect quickly with teens by treating them like the awesome young adults they are. No cheesy prompts—just relaxed direction that brings out real expression.

Do you offer coverage for multiple events?

Yes. If you have a Friday night dinner, Sunday brunch, or additional ceremonies like a tallit or tefillin ceremony, we can build custom coverage or include it through your pre-mitzvah session or package upgrades.

  • Plan family portraits in advance – A shot list helps us move efficiently so no one is waiting around.

  • Check synagogue photography rules – Some have restrictions, and I’ll coordinate with them ahead of time.

  • Schedule a pre-mitzvah session – A relaxed portrait session before the big day helps take some pressure off.

  • Choose outfits wisely – Solid colors and classic styles photograph best.

  • Embrace the unexpected – The best moments are often the ones you didn’t plan!
